Record cleaning brooms have been around since the early 1970s. While some record cleaning brush solutions require manual care for the vinyl record, the Pro-Ject Sweep It is a natural hair broom with a record brush that runs in sync with the tonearm.
The record broom removes dust and aids in record care during playback, as your stylus spins on the turntable. The Sweep it S2 record broom eschews carbon fiber record brush technology and microfiber solutions and instead uses a natural hair record brush to give you a hi-fi audiophile listening experience.
While record sleeves and help to maintain a clean record, over time, grime can build up. Many record cleaners at this price point require record cleaning solution to keep dust particles from interfering with your analog listening experience. For those who would prefer to avoid using a record cleaning machine, handling cleaning fluid, or managing a record cleaning kit with each listen, this aluminum and natural is a powerful solution, especially when compared to cheaper velvet brushes and microfiber cloths.
A highly efficient neodymium magnet keeps the vinyl brush of the record broom in place. These magnets are used to stabilize the vinyl record cleaner brush of the Sweep it S2. Sweep it S2 is constructed in collaboration with Klaus Mick and uses his patented technology to stabilize your vinyl record cleaning. Extensive theoretical and empirical research has been put into the development of this product.
The magnetic attraction between the neodymium magnet – based on the top part of the cylinder – and the [Fe] core/counterweight stabilizes the record brush arm. Moreover, the distance between the neodymium magnet and the [Fe] core/counterweight is carefully chosen to ensure a specific magnetic stabilization force. As the aluminum of the brush arm is paramagnetic, it acts as an additional space between the neodymium magnet and the [Fe] core/counterweight.
Sweep it S2 is height adjustable within a range of about 1cm. The position can be locked with the set screw on the base. With this mechanism, it is possible to adjust the height of the arm of the record broom in order to align it horizontally with the platter. A correct horizontal alignment ensures the correct tracking force of about 6g.
Paired with good phono record handling, clean anti-static inner sleeves to relieve static charges, you’ll ensure your LP records sound amazing. Use a stylus brush or other stylus cleaner to ensure optimal preservation of your record collection
Flexible placement
The record broom uses natural hair instead of carbon fiber bristles and conductive static electricity. It can be placed in one of two left-hand side corners of the turntable. The placement is depending on the type and shape of your turntable. At the optimal position, the brush should align with the spindle (i.e. the center of the platter). Deviations (relative to the spindle) between 1,5 to 2 cm are well compensated by the design of the Sweep It S2. Higher deviations can cause more drastic skating effects.
